SYMPHONY OF SOUND

In a world filled with endless options and the latest hits being churned out at a mile a minute, we are all spoiled for choice and more indecisive than ever.

But technology has always come to our rescue. With YouTube's "Suggested for you" section or "XYZ Playlist" that are extrapolated based on your search and listening history, or Spotify's playlists based on Moods and Genres, there is an endless array of curated music to choose from.

Today, if you're sad, there is a playlist for it in the digital sphere. Wondering how to win over friends at an upbeat house party? No sweat (or maybe a little!) How about a collection of love songs for that special someone? Or a 70s-themed event that needs some groovy sound. All of this is collected and curated for every imaginable occasion, and all you need to do is click a button and press play!

But how did this art of curation come to be? How did music enthusiasts in the Vinyl era put together a cohesive collection of sounds to create a seamless narrative? What makes mixtapes so nostalgic? How did we go from spending hours to create an engaging playlist to digitally curated collections that take mere seconds to download? Is Curation all about playlists, or does it permeate other facets of music culture?

These are some of the questions that the Symphony of Sound tries to answer.
